Biography

Francisco Icalá Tiriquiz, a Mayan leader, was originally from Guatemala where he studied at the National Indigenous Community School in the municipality of Chichicastenango, El Quiché. Between 1998 and 1999 he obtained training from the Monterey and Santa Barbara Institutes, which has allowed him to act as an interpreter in the California Courts for the Maya K’iche-speaking community. In 2000 he was trained as a Health Promotor at Clinica Romero in Los Angeles, CA, and currently works as a Lead Promotor in the Indigenous Program of Instituto Familiar De La Raza in San Francisco, CA.
