Be Fire Smart and Earthquake Smart: How to Prepare Your Loved Ones for a Possible Disaster
This workshop will present two preparedness topics:
Topic 1: Fire Smart
2017 will go down in history as one of the most destructive and deadly years in California for fires. 132 people died as a result of wildfires in California in the past year. The largest at-risk population from all fires, not just wildfires, are older adults and children. Fire Smart presentation focuses on how to be safe in your home:
- Reducing the incidence of possible fires such as a kitchen fire
- Having the right tools including creating an escape plan
- Sheltering in a place versus immediate evacuation
- Preparing a GO bag with essential items for your household
Topic 2: Earthquake Smart
Earthquakes: We can’t predict them, we can’t prevent them, but we can PREPARE for them. Earthquake Smart presentation focuses on how to be safe in your home.
- Reducing incidence of damages and injury during a quake by learning what specific items in your home you need to check
- Having an active emergency plan and what that looks like for everyone in the household
- Preparing a Go bag with essential items for immediate evacuation
