The Relationship Between Chronic Diseases and Mental Health*
During this workshop promotores will be able to understand the bidirectional relationship between chronic disease and mental health with a special focus on diabetes and depression. Promotores will learn to identify common mental health conditions and emotions associated with chronic disease such as depression, anxiety, sadness, or stress. They will also understand the role nutrition and exercise play in improving our physical and mental health and will be able to better guide patients to resources in their communities.
Objectives
- Learn about the high rate of chronic diseases and understand the bidirectional link between these diseases and mental health conditions.
- Identify the common symptoms of mental health conditions and emotional states.
- Direct people to available resources in their communities.
