Saving Lives: Empowered Communities Decreasing Maternal and Infant Deaths in Guatemala

This workshop will describe the work of the health commission, a work team made up of community members that work to support families in bettering their health and responding to emergency situations. The relevance of the promotores and community health workers’ functions (Community health coordinators, whose strategy is to support the development and training of this community group: health commission), also, the development and implementation of an emergency community plan following a previously established process.

Objectives

  1. To share the strategy of the community emergency health plan to support population with high morbidity/mortality risk, mainly child and maternal health.
  2. To demonstrate how we can improve the health status in the community with the participation of organized groups.
